Swinton Village Events

Meet your committee ...

Chair - Finlay Mitchell

Treasurer - James Colin

Secretary - Rachel Parker

Hi I'm Rachel

I moved to Swinton with my family in December 2017 and currently work part-time while I work towards my ambition of setting up my own business.

As the secretary to the commitee I am responsible for taking the minutes at each of our meetings. I also contribute towards the running of this website and the Swinton Village Events Facebook page to keep you all up to date with what's going on.

In my spare time I volunteer with Abundant Borders, a local charity working to alleviate food insecurity in the Scottish Borders by creating a network of local food production; such as through the creation of community forest gardens. I also volunteer with Girlguiding, a national charity and the largest girls-only youth organisation, which works to empower young women and help girls to reach their full potential by providing them with  a wide range of experiences.

As a full-time PhD student my life is full to bursting, but there is always room for fun. So, I sing with the choir, help with film nights, assist with SU in the school and generally do my best to get involved. I was roped into helping with reviving the Swinton Gala Day and I can honestly say I've enjoyed every minute of throwing ideas around! I can hardly wait to see it come together on the 2nd!
