Get Ready for it!

Pig Decorating Competition

Supporting the heritage and history of pigs in Swinton Village, we are holding a pig dressing competition. Commencing on the 11th May 2018, blank pigs will be available (£3.00 each from the Wheatsheaf Hotel) for dressing and placing in your front garden. Judging will take place on the evening of 1st June. A chance to show creative and artistic talent and dress the village in a traditional manner for Gala Day.

Children's Fancy Dress Parade

Do you want to be a superhero for the day? or maybe your favourite character from a book? Your options really are endless, and the more creative the better!

Open Mic / Talent Show

Do you have a talent that you want to show the village what you can do? Singing, musical instrument, stand-up comedy, magic, story telling, juggling or acrobatics. Now is your chance to get on stage and show the world what you can do!

Eat & Drink it!

Ice-Creams

The ice-cream van will be pulling up along side The Green for the afternoon. Why not grab a cone to cook down after competing in one or two if the family races?

Cream Teas

Tea, coffee and scones with cream and jam will be served in the afternoon by a number of our Gala Day volunteers, so why not grab a sweet treat to fuel you through the afternoon.

The Bar on The Green

The Wheatsheaf Hotel will be running a bar on The Green serving both alcoholic and soft drinks to keep everyone hydrated.

Fish & Chips

The fish and chip van will be pulling up along side The Green to keep those hunger pangs at bay so you can stay and enjoy the evening entertainment.

On The Day - Do it!

Pipe Band Procession

The procession will be led by Duns Pipe Band, from Swinton Church to the stage that will be set up on the green.

Crowning Ceremony

Once the procession reaches the green, the King and Queen of the Merse will be crowned with support from their attendants. This year we launch new outfits which will feature Swinton tartan.

Local Exhibitors

Spaces are available around The Green for supporting tents and displays, particularly for local charities, craft businesses and supporting agencies.

Children's Sports

A variety of races suitable for all ages. From sack races to egg and spoon, there should be something for everyone.

Tug-Of-War

Feeling strong? this could be the event for you! Whether you're taking part or cheering from the sidelines for your favourite team, this is sure to be an event to remember.

Quoits

Come and try your hand at this traditional Gala Day event.

Face Painting

Bring out the inner Hulk in your little one, or perhaps they're more of a diva - at the hands of this talented local artist, there are so many possibilities.

Parachute Games

Keep the kids busy while you browse the Stalls around The Green.
